Cancer Risk Assessment

Cancer Risk Assessment provides useful, up to date information about risks of breast, colon, and other cancers in individuals with cancer and their relatives.

Topics covered during your appointment include:

  • Family history of cancer: when does it increase risk
  • Genetic testing: when and why it may be useful
  • Explanation of hereditary factors
  • Hormone replacement therapy: what are risks
  • Tamoxifen: does it prevent breast cancer
  • Origin of cancer cells
  • Risk of developing a second cancer
  • Information as a way to increase confidence
  • When and how to talk to relatives about cancer risk

Medical geneticist Patricia T. Kelly, Ph.D., who has assessed hereditary and non-hereditary cancer risks and helped individuals to feel safe and to be safe for over twenty-five years, provides this service in our office. Her latest book is "Assess Your True Risk of Breast Cancer" (Henry Holt & Co., NY, 2000).

Most evaluations can be completed with 3 office visits.
